Radiothon for Kids to benefit Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital to be broadcast live
SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- The 14th Annual Radiothon for Kids benefiting Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital will broadcast live from the first floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown Campus on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22 and 23.
The Upstate Foundation is partnering with iHeart Media for this annual fundraiser, which supports a variety of funds and programs that directly impact Upstate’s pediatric services and patients.
Last year, Radiothon for Kids raised more than $150,000 to support the Pediatric Emergency Department upgrade, infusion chairs, distraction toys, specific family assistance and social work support, materials and staff for the Family Resource Center, bicycle helmets for Safe Kids Upstate NY and children’s hospital programs, including research, educational training and the Child Life Program.
“The live Radiothon broadcast brings the community into our hospital through their radios. They get to hear the real-life stories of healing from our doctors, and from sick and injured kids and their families,” said Toni Gary from The Upstate Foundation. “Radiothon gives a voice to the families that have actually lived through the experience of having a child in the hospital. It’s very moving and lets the people listening know who they are helping when they donate.”
The Radiothon for Kids will be broadcast live from the first floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital Downtown Campus. Patients and visitors will be able to see the phone banks and live broadcast happening, including radio personalities conducting interviews with patients, family members and Upstate leadership, as they enter the hospital.
Danielle Laraque-Arena, MD, president of Upstate Medical University; John McCabe, MD, chief executive officer of Upstate University Hospital; Thomas Welch, MD, chief medical officer of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and Richard Cantor, MD, director of the Pediatric Emergency Department, will all share their experiences in interviews with the radio hosts. Radiothon for Kids will air from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Syracuse iHeart Radio stations: Y94 FM, WSYR Radio with cut-ins on B104.7, and Power620.
Donations can be made online now and throughout Radiothon by visiting Radiothon For Kids or iHeart Media stations.
