Upstate to showcase regional services at New York State Fair

Are you looking for the latest on how to keep your family safe and healthy? Upstate Medical University will have experts on a wide range of health topics ready to meet the community in its exhibit, located in the Science and Industry Building, at the 2015 Great New York State Fair, which runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7.

Upstate Trauma Services will host a free bicycle helmet fitting and giveaway of 700 helmets Saturday, Aug. 29, beginning at 10 a.m. for as long as supplies last. Helmets will be fitted by a medical professional and children receiving a helmet will be asked to pledge to wear it whenever riding a bike. For the first time, Upstate will supply adult-sized helmets in addition to the children’s helmets. Helmets are provided as part of Upstate Trauma’s ongoing injury prevention efforts with additional funding from The Upstate Foundation’s Friend in Deed fund and The Advocates for Upstate Medical University.

“Being a part of the New York State Fair is a great way for us to meet the people in our community and to share health information with the people we serve,” said John McCabe, M.D., chief executive officer of Upstate University Hospital. “Part of our mission is to provide outreach that educates families, promoting good health for all ages, from children to grandparents. The Fair is a fun way for us to accomplish that.”
