Upstate Medical University will welcome students to campus this month with ceremonies, dinners and various orientation activities. 160 College of Medicine MD, MD/PhD and MD/MPH Program students from 80 different undergraduate institutions, as well as students from the Medical Scholar Program at the College of Health Professions, will enjoy four days of welcoming activities beginning Thursday, Aug. 6, with classes slated to begin Aug. 10.

College of Medicine students will participate in the annual White Coat Ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 6. David Duggan, MD, dean of the College of Medicine, will lead the event, where each new student will be presented with their white coat.

The colleges of Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Nursing and Medicine’s Master of Public Health Program at Upstate Medical University will welcome new students to campus Thursday, Aug. 20 with two days of orientation activities, including campus overviews, white coat ceremonies, and networking dinners. First day of classes is Monday, Aug. 24.

Upstate’s Masters of Public Health Program is offering special activities for its incoming class of 29 students (4 MD/MPH, 21 MPH, 4 Certificate of Advance Health Studies), including a welcome reception to meet the faculty Aug. 19.

The College of Graduate Studies will welcome 25 new students (19 doctoral, 6 masters). To introduce its new students to faculty, the college will offer Dinner with a Research Scientist on Sunday, Aug. 24. The degree-granting programs offered by the college include: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PhD/MS); Cell & Developmental Biology (PhD/MS); Microbiology & Immunology (PhD); Neuroscience (PhD); Pharmacology (PhD); and Physiology (PhD/MS).

The Upstate Medical University College of Nursing has 136 new students enrolled in its degree programs for the coming academic year. The College of Nursing Convocation, an autumn tradition on campus, will be held Sept. 10 and focus on technology in healthcare.

The College of Health Professions will hold its White Coat Ceremony, Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium, Schine Student Center on the SU campus.
