Seeing Double at Upstate Medical University

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Identical twins Matthew and Michael Siegenthaler of Vernon, N.Y., will earn their medical degrees Sunday at Upstate Medical University.

But the similarities between the two don’t end with their looks and medical degrees.

Both are members of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and upon graduation, both will do their residencies at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse and both will pursue family medicine.

The desire to pursue family medicine as a specialty came out of their experience with Upstate’s Rural Medical Scholars Program, known as RMED.

Both spent time at Oneida Healthcare where they gained an interest in dispensing medical care in a rural setting.

Will they go into medical practice together? There’s a good chance.

Oh, and there’s one more thing they both share: undergraduate degrees from SUNY Geneseo.

The Siegenthalers are among the 511 students who will receive degrees and certificates from Upstate's colleges of Graduate Studiets, Health Professions, Medicine and Nursing May 17.
