Paul E. Norcross joins Medical Alumni Association/Foundation as executive director
SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Paul E. Norcross, who has more than 30 years of fundraising, development and planned giving leadership experience, has joined Upstate Medical University as executive director of the Medical Alumni Association/Foundation.
In this position, Norcross works closely with the Medical Alumni Foundation board, providing leadership in the areas of fundraising and communication. He also oversees constituent relations with Upstate’s College of Medicine alumni, former trainees of residency and fellowship programs and current medical students and their families.
Prior to Upstate, Norcross held executive positions at SUNY Albany, Syracuse University and St. Bonaventure University.
As senior major gifts officer at SUNY Albany, a position he held from 2007 to 2013, Norcross secured 29 leadership gifts totaling nearly $4 million, including two commitments of more than $1 million and coordinated a $7 million campaign for the university’s new athletics complex that raised nearly $4 million in gifts and pledges. From 1995 to 2007, he held leadership positions at Syracuse University, most recently as senior philanthropic adviser where he secured $7.8 million in leadership gifts, including three commitments of more than $1 million, one of which served as the naming gift for the new International Student Center. He also served as director of Development for St. Bonaventure University (1989 to 1994), where he helped plan and lead the university’s first campaign that surpassed its goal of $23 million. He has also held executive positions with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 10 years.
A 1974 graduate of Syracuse University, Norcross holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies.
Established in 1955, the Medical Alumni Association at Upstate currently serves 10,000 alumni worldwide. The Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Alumni Association. Gifts to the fund provide scholarships and special programs that benefit students in Upstate’s College of Medicine.
