Foundation for Upstate's Miracle Ride marks 20 years of supporting pediatric services
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Twenty years ago, the Foundation for Upstate Medical University joined 30 motorcycle riders in the open lot where Upstate University Hospital’s East Garage now stands. Together, they took a ride to support miracles at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. That ride raised $3,000 and became the first ever Miracle Ride. Since then, Miracle Ride has grown--last year’s ride had over 650 riders--and raised more than $1 million for pediatric services at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. This year’s ride on May 18 is expected to have more than 700 riders.
Miracle Ride is the longest running motorcycle ride supporting pediatric care in Central New York. It winds through a 60-mile scenic ride around Onondaga and Madison counties, beginning and ending at to the Spinning Wheel Restaurant in North Syracuse.
“We can’t believe this is the 20th year for Miracle Ride,” says Toni Gary, director, community relations and development for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, The Foundation for Upstate Medical University. “Year after year, this event has been made possible by the dedication of motorcycle owners who are passionate about helping kids in our community and supporting our Children’s Hospital.”
“Over the years, Miracle Ride has helped us to provide the best pediatric care for our patients in countless ways,” said Leola Rodgers, M.P.H., associate administrator, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. “Funds from this event support many aspects of pediatric care here, including the Child Life program, the Family Resource Center and Safe Kids Upstate NY Coalition. These programs make a world of difference for our patients and their families.”
This year, Miracle Ride is holding a raffle for a 2014 Harley-Davidson XL883, donated by FX Caprara. Tickets can be purchased at the Foundation office, 326 CAB, or online anytime by visiting Foundation for Upstate and at the ride itself. Tickets can also be purchased at Bike Night Thursday, May 15 at the Lincklaen House in Cazenovia.
