Upstate Pediatrician Frederick Roberts retires

August 10, 2011

Pediatrician Frederick Roberts is congratulated by Upstate Medical University's Pediatrics Chief Dr. Thomas Welch on the occasion of Roberts retirement from the medical profession. Roberts, 92, has treated patients in the Syracuse area for nearly 70 years in various practices, including Upstate's Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic. He has been a member of Upstate's voluntary faculty since 1954.


Upstate hosts National Grid press event to announce $6 million upgrade to University Hill

Upstate University Hospital Chief Operating Officer Paul Seale speaks about the construction of the $74-million Upstate Cancer Center during a gathering to announce National Grid's $6 million upgrade of utility infrastructure on University Hill. The utility company's new investment in the area is due in large part to Upstate projects, such as the cancer center and the expansion of the Institute for Human Performance. Listening in is National Grid Chief Executive Officer Steve Holliday.


Animal art on display at Golisano

Art created by animals at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is on exhibit through Sept. 28 in 12th floor gallery of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Featured pieces include paintings by penguins, bog turtles, elephants and other mammals. The pieces are also for sale, with 25 percent of the proceeds benefiting Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.


Upstate hosts a Farmers Market every Friday through mid-October

Upstate hosts a Farmers Market every Friday through mid-October from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. The market features fresh produce, eggs, organic breads, pastries and other items, such as flowers and herbs from local farmers. New vendors are being added weekly. The market is located at the corner of East Adams Street and Irving Avenue.


Upstate event to highlight healing role of music Aug. 13

Keys for Cancer will be an evening of music and insight into the healing role of music in medicine to be held Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel on the Syracuse University campus. Musicians from Upstate Medical University and from Central New York will perform.

Upstate ranked as top hospital in Syracuse

U.S. News & World Report ranked Upstate University Hospital as the top hospital in the Syracuse metro region in its 2011-12 Best Hospital report. In addition, U.S. News ranked the specialty care areas of cancer; ear, nose and throat; kidney disorders; and urology.


Top
