Upstate receives more than $3 million for PA training

Curious George signs an autograph for 6-year-old Andrew, a patient at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. The popular kids' book character visited the hospital to celebrate Children's Book Week. The celebration featured a story hour and free children's books to patients. The Syracuse University Bookstore sponsored the event.

Pediatric admissions at Upstate rose 39 percent in the first year of operation of the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. In addition, the Children's hospital has helped recruitment efforts, attracting numerous pediatric specialists to Syracuse, including two pediatric surgeons who joined the hospital this month.

A special cookie commemorates the first birthday of the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. A celebration was held at the hospital today. Since the children's hospital opened Sept. 23, 2009, pediatric admissions have soared 39 percent with patients being cared for from 42 counties. Officials say the opening of the hospital has helped recruit numerous pediatric specialists, including pediatric surgeons and immonologists.
