Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital wins honor from regional development group

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital has been recognized as an Award of Merit winner by the Upstate New York Chapter of the Commercial, Real Estate, Development Association (NAIOP).

NAIOP officials said the children's hospital's distinguished architectural features, overall design and expressive details make it worthy of inclusion in a list of projects from throughout central and western New York that deserve recognition this year.

The Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital was designed by Karlsberger, of Columbus, Ohio, and assisted by King and King Architects LLP, of Syracuse.

The Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital is a 71-bed hospital within a hospital located on 11th and 12th floors of University Hospital's new six-story East Tower. The children's hospital, which opened in September, is chock-full of enhanced patient and family amenities, most notably spacious private patient rooms with furniture designed to give parents and family members a comfortable night's sleep without leaving their child's side. The most eye-catching element of the facility is the large two-story "treehouse" space located on the east side of the building more than 100 feet in the air. A café, solarium, performance center, chapel and an exhibit space are some of the key elements of this area.
