SUNY Upstate honored for best practices in HR

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — SUNY Upstate Medical University has been honored for its innovative use of the Internet and Web applications to provide more efficient human resources services to its customers.

The university received the "Best Practice in Human Resources Technology" award from the CNY Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, Success by Six and the Manufacturers Association of CNY.

"We are proud to be recognized for our collective efforts," said Eric Frost, associate vice president of SUNY Upstate's Human Resources Department. "Partnering with the Payroll Services Office and the Administrative Information Services Division of Information Management and Technology, we have initiated several new Web-based self-serve applications into business operations that have streamlined processes, saved paper and allowed for initiation of system generated e-mails to our customers."

Frost and his staff, with the assistance of Educational Communications, also redesigned the Human Resources' Web site to allow for more immediate and up-to-date information and access to issues affecting the SUNY Upstate community, such as compensation, benefits, work/life balance and training. Two key features—Ask HR and HR on the Road—make the Human Resources staff more accessible to its customers and also serve to inform HR staff when a department may need additional assistance, Smith said.

The award was presented in October.
