Scheinman named 'Officer in Charge' of SUNY Upstate; will serve in that capacity until new president is appointed

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— Steven J. Scheinman, M.D., has been named "Officer in Charge" at SUNY Upstate Medical University. The appointment, effective June 1, was made by State University of New York Chancellor John Ryan.

As officer in charge, Scheinman will assume responsibilities normally handled by the SUNY Upstate president until a new president is appointed.

The search for a new president to succeed Gregory L. Eastwood, M.D, who was named interim president at Case Western Reserve University, is expected to conclude in the next 30 to 60 days.

Chancellor Ryan said the appointment of an officer in charge will allow for a smooth transition until the new president arrives on campus.

Dr. Scheinman will continue in his present position as executive vice president of SUNY Upstate and dean of the College of Medicine, while serving in this additional capacity.
