TV special to highlight pediatric services at University Hospital to air April 25

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Compelling stories of young children who are being treated at University Hospital will be featured when Upstate Medical University Foundation at Syracuse presents its annual television fundraising campaign to benefit University Hospital's pediatric patients Tuesday, April 25, from 8 to 8:30 p.m. on NewsChannel 9 WSYR.

The program will be hosted by Tim Green and Juli Boeheim. Green, former member of the Atlanta Falcon football team, is an author, television celebrity and syndicated columnist. Boeheim is the wife of Syracuse University Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim. Together they will spotlight the unique care provided by University Hospital's pediatrics team to children with complex medical disorders.

Featured interviews include 10th grader John Nguyen of Binghamton, 12-year old Adam Rowe of Bernards Bay, and eight-year old Diamond Williams of Watertown.

The program will also include interviews with Margaret Nellis, director of University Hospital's Child Life Program, who relates her personal story of a serious injury she experienced as a child, and with Thomas Welch, M.D., chair of University Hospital's Department of Pediatrics, who will offer his insight into the importance of recruiting and retaining highly-skilled professionals when it comes to providing care to seriously ill children.

"We encourage Central New Yorkers to watch the program to witness the unique medical care that we provide our children in their own community," said Toni Gary, director of University Hospital's Children's Miracle Network. "We are fortunate to have this high level quality of care provided by professionals who have distinguished themselves nationally in the area of pediatric patient care and research into pediatric medical disorders."

Money raised through the broadcast remains in Central New York to benefit University Hospital's pediatric services in the areas of patient care, research, community outreach and patient education.

Viewers can make their pledge by calling 315-464-KIDS during the program or anytime throughout the year.
