University Hospital earns top honor for medication safety practices

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - When it comes to medication safety, University Hospital is tops, according to a national survey group. The University Health Consortium (UHC) ranked University Hospital as the best performer in its Medication Safety Benchmarking project. Out of 32 top medical centers surveyed across the country, University Hospital was found to have developed the most rigorous and stringent medication safety policies and programs. University Hospital received the recognition in March from UHC.


SUNY Upstate's Leslie J. Kohman, M.D., named SUNY Distinguished Professor

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Cycling 1,700 miles in the summer heat from Syracuse to Dallas is not something every RE/MAX agent longs to do, but for Karl Sterling of RE/MAX Masters in Fayetteville and his son Nick, this adventure has been in the works for many years. On June 28, after Nick's graduation from Westhill High School, the duo will start their 14-day trek through six states to Texas.

Jackson Allison Jr., MD, associate dean and professor of emergency medicine at SUNY Upstate and chief of staff at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center will be dispatched by the U.S. state department June 1 for a month-long visit to the African nation of Malawi, but not to provide medical care. Allison is being sent to Malawi to combat a serious health epidemic, AIDS, through song.

Time Warner joins WIXT to air Children's Miracle Network broadcast June 4, 5

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -The CNY Children's Miracle Network (CMN) has added Time Warner Cable as a media partner in presenting the Children's Miracle Network national broadcast. Time Warner will carry the CMN national broadcast on Channel 76 Saturday, June 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. Channel 76's coverage of the national broadcast will feature the 464-KIDS telephone number for local call-in pledges. WIXT News Channel 9 will carry a special CMN program Friday, June 3, from 8 to 10 p.m. and segments of the national broadcast.


Medical devices, amenities for hospitalized children receive CNY Children's Miracle Network funding

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Pediatric cardiac apnea monitors, support for a clinic for children with autism and research into two life-threatening pediatric disorders are among the proposals that have been approved for funding by the allocations committee for the 2004 Children's Miracle Network (CMN) campaign. Since 1985, when the CMN was first presented in Central New York, nearly $12 million has been raised for children at University and Crouse hospitals as a result of CMN activities.
