Nancy Page of University Hospital selected for national patient safety leadership fellowship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Nancy Page, R.N., of University Hospital is among 40 healthcare leaders from 27 hospitals and health systems across the United States and Canada to participate in the Fourth Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET) Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship class. The fellowship is a yearlong educational program for senior health care leaders to advance the process of creating improved cultures of safety and promoting breakthroughs in patient care.

Each fellow must work on a project throughout the fellowship. Page's project involves increasing intravenous medication safety for University Hospital patients. University Hospital has received national recognition for its efforts to improve the safety of medication administration.

Page has 24 years experience as a registered nurse in the hospital, home care and private office setting. Her roles at University Hospital have included coordinator for nursing practice, pediatric diabetes educator, and clinical nurse specialist for pediatrics and staff nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit. She will take the new position of patient safety officer at the upcoming Central New York Children's Hospital at University Hospital.

The HRET fellowship was developed to focus on ways to enhance patient safety improvements in health care. University Hospital, Alaris Medical Corp. and a travel stipend from the National Patient Safety Foundation support Page's participation in the program.
