University Hospital relocates seven outpatient clinics to 550 Harrison Center

Seven outpatient clinics at University Hospital will relocate to 550 Harrison Street Oct. 5. The move, officials say, will provide the clinics with more space for patient care and room for patient amenities, such as a patient education room.


SUNY Upstate to host noted medical photography exhibit in October

Images from one of the most important collections of early medical photography will be on display for the public at SUNY Upstate Medical University's Health Sciences Library Oct. 1 through 31. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. The exhibit opening is part of SUNY Upstate's Reunion Weekend.

Fun, laughter and good advice will be dispensed when Steve Allen Jr., M.D., conveys his thoughts on how to juggle life's stresses at SUNY Upstate Medical University's Weiskotten Lecture Friday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. in the Weiskotten Hall Ninth Floor Auditorium, 766 Irving Ave., Syracuse. The public lecture is free.


Therapy sessions for social phobia offered

SUNY Upstate Medical University's Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic is accepting patients with generalized social phobia for a 20-week group therapy session that uses cognitive-behavioral therapy. The program will begin in mid-October. Each session lasts two hours.


East Adams Street near University Hospital to close Saturday, Sept. 25

East Adams Street from Sarah Loguen Street to Elizabeth Blackwell Street will be closed Saturday, Sept. 25, from approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to the installation of the pedestrian walkway that will connect the new parking garage to the second floor of the University Hospital lobby, which is currently under construction.

Manlius architect contributes to Children's Hospital campaign

John Zacharek, center, director of corporate development at the Upstate Medical University Foundation, accepts a $2,500 check from Peter G. King, left, and David A. Johnson, to benefit the Central New York Children's Hospital at University Hospital. King and Johnson are partners with King and King Architects LLP of Manlius. The architectural firm is the associate architect for University Hospital's east wing vertical expansion project that includes the Central New York Children's Hospital. The money was raised at the company's annual employee golf tournament, held in July. Construction on the children's hospital is set to begin this Spring and open in December 2007


SUNY Upstate nursing professor selected for national conference

Meega Wells, a professor in the College of Nursing at SUNY Upstate Medical University, was one of 99 nurses from across the country selected to participate in a three-day course on end-of-life nursing care held at The City of Hope (COH) Cancer Center in Pasadena, Calif., in June. The program, titled End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium: Promoting Palliative Care in Advanced Nursing Practice, is for nurses who provide education for graduate nursing students. The program addressed end-of-life care; pain and symptom assessment and management; cultural considerations; ethical issues; communication; loss, grief, and bereavement; last hours of life; and achieving quality care at the end of life.
