Steven J. Scheinman, M.D., named dean of the College of Medicine

Steven J. Scheinman, M.D., chief of the nephrology division and professor of medicine and pharmacology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, has been named executive vice president and dean of the College of Medicine. The appointment, effective March 1, was announced by SUNY Upstate President Gregory L. Eastwood, M.D.


Interim chairs named for cell and developmental biology and radiology

SUNY Upstate Medical University has named David Feiglin, M.D., as interim chair of the Department of Radiology, and Dennis Stelzner, Ph.D., as interim chair of the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. Both appointments are effective immediately.


John McCabe named chair of emergency medicine at SUNY Upstate

John McCabe, M.D., a professor of emergency medicine who has held several key administrative positions at SUNY Upstate Medical University, has been named chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The appointment, effective Jan. 24, was announced by William J. Williams, M.D., dean of the College of Medicine. McCabe succeeds Richard Hunt, M.D., who joined the Centers for Disease Control as a division chief.


'House of Joshua' author to deliver Elizabeth Blackwell Day Lecture at SUNY Upstate Feb. 18

Pediatrician's book on courageous children to benefit Central New York Children's Hospital

In his new book, "Children Courageous and Their Families" (North Country Books, 2003, $15), Roberts tells the stories of 23 families and their children, who from the very first cry fought the odds of illness and disease.

Zuber receives Research to Prevent Blindness award

Michael E. Zuber, Ph.D., a research assistant professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University, is one of four scientists nationally to receive a $200,000 Career Development Award from Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB), the world's leading voluntary health organization supporting eye research. The four year grant will further his study of retinal stem cells.
