NIH awards SUNY Upstate Medical University $3.6 million grant

SUNY Upstate Medical University researcher Steven L. Batki, M.D., has received a five-year $3.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a clinical trial to improve access and adherence to medical treatment for injection drug users with chronic hepatitis C infection. This is Batki's second NIH grant in two years. He was awarded $2.2 million last year to conduct a four-year study of a medication's effectiveness to treat alcohol abuse in people with serious mental illness.

North side of East Adams Street sidewalk closed through March.

The north side of the E. Adams Street sidewalk between Sarah Loguen and Elizabeth Blackwell streets will be closed today through March to facilitate construction on the parking garage. The sidewalk on the east side of Sarah Loguen Street remains open as does the Bus Stop. Upstate Announcements will keep you updated on any other sidewalk or road closures as a result of the ongoing construction projects around campus.


University Hospital appoints area's first pediatric chaplain

The Rev. Louise Shepard has been named pediatric chaplain at University Hospital, making her the only chaplain dedicated to pediatric patients in the region. Shepard's position was made possible through a one-year grant by the Children's Miracle Network.
