Plastic surgeon joins SUNY Upstate faculty

Plastic surgeon named to faculty at SUNY Upstate Medical University

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A plastic surgeon who trained at New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City has joined the clinical faculty of the Department of Surgery at Upstate Medical University.

Guillermo Quetell M.D., who completed medical school at Upstate in 1989, has returned to teach and practice plastic surgery, with an emphasis on breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. Quetell (pronounced k-TELL) will also offer cosmetic procedures, such as liposuction, tummy tucks and Botox injections.

Quetell, who will serve as assistant professor of surgery, completed a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, affiliated with Cornell University's Weill Medical College. During his residency, Quetell trained in breast reconstruction at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, which performs more breast reconstruction than any hospital in the Eastern United States.

Quetell also completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh and a general surgery residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. While in military service, he was a surgeon at Lanstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, the largest overseas U.S. medical facility. Quetell was also director of Lanstuhl's Burn Response Team. At Upstate, he will provide burn reconstruction services to the Clark Burn Center.
