Nurse educator at Joslin Diabetes Center wins Nurse of the Year Award

Suzanne Meyer, a diabetes nurse educator at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Syracuse, has received the Nurse of the Year Award from the Healthcare Marketplace Conference.

Meyer was recognized for her nearly five years' service to the Joslin Diabetes Center, where she counsels patients on a variety of issues relating to their diabetes care. The nomination noted that "she has worked hard to maintain Joslin's reputation for expertise in diabetes care and education in the medical community, both locally and nationwide."

Meyer has played a lead role in diabetes education, serving on the Governor's task force that developed a teaching tool to help school nurses better care for students with diabetes.

In addition to her nursing responsibilities, Meyer also serves as administrator of the Joslin Diabetes Center overseeing office operations and staff.

The award was presented by the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance and the New York State Nurses Association at the annual Healthcare Marketplace Conferencein June.

The Joslin Diabetes Center at SUNY Upstate Medical University, which opened in 1995, is affiliated with the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston

Meyer lives in West Monroe, N.Y.
