Clark Burn Center at University Hospital to hold Open House Oct. 11

Last year, more than 1,600 victims of burns, frostbite, smoke inhalation injury, and other related disorders received care through the Clark Burn Center at University Hospital of SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Central New Yorkers are invited to take an "inside look" at the technology used to treat burn victims and to meet the professionals who provide specialized burn care at the Clark Burn Center Open House, which will take place during Fire Prevention Week Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Burn Center, located in University Hospital's East Wing, 6th floor.

In addition to information about the Burn Unit, staff will provide visitors with burn prevention strategies. A drawing for a handmade quilt by Clark Burn Center nurse Joan Hilton will also be offered at the event.

The Clark Burn Center is a four-bed Intensive Care Unit. It is the only center in our region that provides coordinated burn care. The center serves over 25 counties from as far north as the St. Lawrence River to the southern borders of New York state, and from Rochester to Albany, including the northern areas of Pennsylvania and parts of Canada.

The center cares for both adult and pediatric patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The burn team includes nurses, aides, nurse practitioners, burn technicians, therapists, social workers and case managers as well as attending physicians and resident physicians. The center also provides education to the public and health care providers.
