Author of 'When Diabetes Hits Home' to speak June 9 in Syracuse

On Wednesday, June 9, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m, Wendy Satin Rapaport, MSW, Psy.D, assistant professor of medicine, University of Miami School of Medicine, Diabetes Research Institute, Miami, Florida, will give a presentation for families of diabetic children and sign copies of her book, "When Diabetes Hits Home: The Whole Family's Guide to Emotional Health," at Barnes and Noble Bookstore, 3430 Erie Boulevard, DeWitt. Rapaport has 20 years of experience as a clinical social worker and psychologist working in the field of diabetes.

Earlier in the day, Rapaport will speak at the Annual Pediatric Teaching Day on "Diabetes in Youth" to be held at the Sheraton University Hotel and Conference Center. The event is sponsored by the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse and Binghamton, and Crouse Hospital. Topics will include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, dietary management, common psychological hurdles, and new medications and equipment. The topics will be presented in lecture format by distinguished speakers in each field. The program will provide valuable information for pediatricians, family physicians and nurses who evaluate and treat diabetic patients ages 10 to 15.
