Retirement reception for Richard Beers is Dec. 27

A retirement reception for Richard Beers, MD, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the 5E break room, E5507 Upstate University Hospital. Dr. Beers will retire after 31 years of service as professor of the department of Anesthesiology. The Upstate community is welcome.

NYSHIP Health Insurance Option Transfer Period open now through Dec. 29

The New York State Option Transfer Period is open now through Dec. 29. The 2024 publications have been mailed to homes, including information about Planning for Option Transfer , 2024 NYSHIP Choices, and 2024 NYSHIP Rates . Employees may use the Health Insurance Transaction From PS404 to make changes to their benefits. Advocates for Upstate seeks donations through Dec. 31

Donations are welcome for the Advocates for Upstate’s 2023 Year-End Campaign to benefit its Grant Funding Program until Dec. 31. Last year alone, the Advocates provided more than $77,000 in grants to support patient care programs such as the purchase of Nebulizer Compressors and Kits for cystic fibrosis patients and burn prevention kits for older adults. To make a tax-deductible donation, visit: https://advocates-for-upstate.square.site. New Microsoft Teams client to be released Jan. 3

IMT will begin the roll out of the new Microsoft Teams client Jan. 3. For details on how to enable and use the new client, visit: https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/office/switch-to-the-new-Microsoft-teams-2d4a0c96-fa52-43f8-a006-4bfbc62cf6c5. Any issues with Teams following the launch, open a Help Desk ticket using the Online Web Portal or call 315-464-4115. The old Teams client will begin to be phased out, starting in mid to late February.

Easy for You is Jan. 9

Easy for You, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Suite C3068 on the third floor of Upstate Cancer Center. Everyone with an Upstate ID is welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. Upstate Health Justice Conference is Jan. 15; donations sought 

The Health Justice Conference at Upstate seeks to highlight the ways healthcare professionals can serve as community advocates for social health and wellbeing of marginalized communities. As part of the annual conference, which will be held Jan. 15, scholarships are awarded to local high school and college students who have demonstrated values aligned with the social justice and community advocacy aspects of the mission of the event. Upstate Innovation Day is Jan. 23

Upstate Innovation Day will be held Jan. 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CNY Biotech Accelerator Theater, 841 E. Fayette St., Syracuse. The Pharmaceutical, Biologic and Medical Device Research and Commercialization—including Upstate’s CNY Biotech Accelerator Medical Device Innovation Challenge (MDIC)—Pitch Event will offer a $5,000 pitch award. The Informed Patient interviews are available through various podcast platforms, including YouTube. HealthLink on Air is broadcast on WRVO Public Media at 6 a.m. Sundays.
