The Upstate community is welcome to the Team Upstate 20-year anniversary ice cream social May 31 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in 4414 B/C Academic Building. The event is hosted by the President’s Office. Dr. Dewan will acknowledge Team Upstate with a brief program at 2 p.m.

Upstate Strong shirt sale is May 24 and 25
Upstate Strong T-shirts will be available for purchase May 24 until 3:30 p.m. and again May 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. outside Café 750 on the second floor of Upstate University Hospital. Shirts are $18 each and available in V-neck or crew in sizes XS-4XL. Cash, card, or check made out to the Nursing Recognition Fund #290 will be accepted. There are no holds. Questions? Service for new chaplain interns is May 25
The Upstate community is welcome to attend a service for the new summer class of Clinical Pastoral Education Chaplain Interns May 25 at noon in the Interfaith Chapel on the first floor of Upstate University Hospital. Upstate is one of only 39 academic medical centers in the country with a nationally accredited Clinical Pastoral Education training program recognized by the Department of Education. Nappi Wellness Institute open house is June 2
The Upstate community is welcome to an open house for the Nappi Wellness Institute June 2 from noon to 2 p.m. at 725 E. Adams St. The new 210,000 square-foot building will showcase innovative designs, expanded clinical space, and local artwork in the first WELL certified health care facility in New York state. Staff will be available to answer questions about the new models of care. The event offers a unique opportunity to experience the space prior to start of clinical operations June 13.

Easy for You, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, June 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Multidisciplinary Suite (C3068) on the third floor of Upstate Cancer Center. Those with an Upstate ID are welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. Save the date: Teal There’s a Cure is July 4
The 15th annual Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s a Cure 5K Walk/Run will be held Tuesday, July 4 at 8 a.m. at Marcellus Park. A virtual event will be held July 1 to 4. Proceeds benefit ovarian cancer research, education, and awareness—including research at Upstate Medical University and the Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s a Cure Fund, held at the Upstate Foundation, which provides ovarian cancer patient assistance. ExtendedCare Open Forum
Upstate has a new telehealth Epic integrated video solution, ExtendedCare. Using ExtendedCare, providers will be able to launch a video visit from within Epic. Patients will be able to join directly from MyChart or from a text message or email link. Over the next several months, ExtendedCare will be rolled out to all ambulatory departments. Open forums on ExtendedCare will be held to learn more about the video visit platform and have your questions answered.
The forums will run the second Wednesday of every month from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and the fourth Thursday of every month from 4:30 to 5 p.m. from now until the end of October. To join, use the following link: https://upstate.webex.com/meet/greenfma. Questions? Email GreenfMa@Upstate.edu.

IMT webpage offers Epic users information about upcoming improvements
As IMT implements improvements in preparation for Epic's transition to Hyperdrive, a web-based browser, users will notice some changes to the activities they use day to day. These changes include a refreshed look and feel, quicker loading times, and improved security. Vending machine transitions
Upstate is currently transitioning vending machine vendors which may result in some machines not being filled while service transitions. Upstate’s food services department is working to provide full service again as soon as possible.

Nellie Hurley scholarship applications sought
Advocates for Upstate welcomes eligible Upstate employees and volunteers to apply for Nellie Hurley scholarships for fall semester 2023 to be used towards undergraduate degrees in health-related fields. Applications will be accepted through June 30. The Informed Patient podcast recently featured interviews on a vaccine trial involving teens, protecting aging skin and the risk factors for kidney disease.
- A local trial for Lyme vaccine is recruiting kids and teens, explains Kristopher Paolino, MD, the infectious disease specialist leading the program. It is also available on YouTube.
- How to protect aging skin from the sun and other factors is described by Ramsay Farah, MD, chief of dermatology. It is also available on YouTube.
- Reducing the risk of kidney disease is the topic for Michael Lioudis, MD, chief of nephrology, who touches on related actors like diabetes, high blood pressure and family history. It is also available on YouTube.
