Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging award nominations sought

Upstate’s Black History Month Committee seeks nominations to recognize individuals, groups, and community organizations that have worked to advance the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Upstate and in our community. To nominate, visit: https://forms.office.com/r/XDi9JMwN35 or email diversity@upstate.edu. Nominations are due by Feb. 15 and award recipients will be announced the week of Feb. 20. Black History Month Gala tickets available for purchase

The Renaissance Gala ‘Celebrating Black Excellence’ will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Sky Armory. Student tickets are $35 each; all others are $50 each. Wellness resource hotline launched 

A wellness resource hotline has been established for Upstate employees, staff and students. The wellness hotline is available 24/7 and is designed to help improve the wellness of the Upstate community by providing callers with resources to support medical, physical, emotional, professional, safety, and spiritual wellbeing. The hotline is confidential and is staffed by Upstate Triage Center nurses under the medical direction of Deborah Mann, MD, assistant professor of Emergency Medicine. Everyone with a valid Upstate ID is welcome to take advantage of this resource.

No identifying information is collected and calls are completely confidential. To reach the hotline, call 315-464-5273 or 315-464-KARE.

Team Upstate seeks shavees for St. Baldrick's fundraiser 

Team Upstate seeks shavees to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation to fund pediatric oncology research. The event will be held March 19 at the Spinning Wheel. 7384 Thompson Rd, North Syracuse, NY. To join the team or donate visit: https://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/TeamUpstate.

Coffee with the CMO is Feb. 10

Coffee with the CMO will be held Friday, Feb. 10 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the conference rooms of Upstate Cancer Center (C1076 A/B/C). All Upstate physicians, APPs, and clinical staff are invited to gather with colleagues for an update from Chief Medical Officer Amy Tucker, MD. Flower sale is Feb. 14

National Donor Day is Feb. 14

Upstate’s Transplant Program will host informational tables Feb. 14 in honor of National Donor Day—a day dedicated to organ donation education. Tables will be staffed from 9 to 11 a.m. outside the cafeteria at Community, and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the second-floor lobby at Upstate University Hospital. Harvard physician speaks on caring for patients with disability Feb. 17

Lisa I. Iezzoni, MD, MSc, professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will present Physicians’ Experiences with and Perceptions of Caring for Patients with Disability Feb. 17 at noon via Zoom. Dr. Iezzoni is a member of the National Academy of Medicine in the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and is the 2022/23 Sally Starling Seaver Fellow at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. She has published widely on health care experiences of persons with disabilities. Let the team know how they are doing and if they are on the right track with honest feedback that will allow for meaningful changes to assist with combating burnout while improving the care of patients.

The assessment will take less than 15 minutes to complete and is completely confidential. Responses will be analyzed and presented in aggregate to Upstate leadership. No identifying information will be included.

Advocates Grant Funding Program seeks applicants 

The Advocates Grant Funding Program for 2023-2024 is accepting applications for funding now through Feb. 27 at noon. Awards will be announced in April. Funds for grants awarded will be disbursed between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024. All proposals should align with Advocates for Upstate’s mission to improve patient care and satisfaction, support medical education, and enhance community health. Applications for grants are accepted from departments across the Upstate Medical University campuses and must be for items and/or services NOT funded through department budgets.
