Excellence in Healthcare Awards presented to Upstate physicians today
Upstate’s Dr Gennady Bratslavsky and Dr Kristopher Paolino will be honored today with the presentation of Excellence in Healthcare Awards. Bratslavsky will receive with the A. John Merola Lifetime Achievement Award. Paolino will receive the Excellence in Medicine award. Call In for Cancer is today
The Upstate Foundation, with iHeartMedia’s NewsRadio 570 WSYR and Y94, along with CNY Central, is holding its fourth annual Call In For Cancer fundraiser today, Oct. 20. Supporting unmet needs of patients being treated at the Upstate Cancer Center, the event will be broadcast live from Upstate Cancer Center by radio stations NewsRadio 570 WSYR and Y94 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will feature stories of hope, courage and caring from cancer patients, family members and providers. During the broadcast, volunteers from Upstate staff and the Central New York community will staff a phone bank operating from the Upstate Cancer Center lobby. During the event, donations may be made by calling 315-464-5500, or by texting CALLIN to 41444. Former New York governor to speak at Center for Vision Research 25th anniversary symposium Oct. 21
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and the Center for Vision Research will host a daylong symposium Oct. 21 in celebration of its 25 years of vision research. The event will be held at the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse. Featured will be a keynote address by the former New York Gov. David A. Paterson, author of Black, Blind and In Charge, a reception and private viewing of the Everson Museum of Art collection. Paterson will speak at 5:45 p.m. The symposium features leading experts in vision research, including Dr. Michael Chiang, director of National Eye Institute; Professor Janey Wiggs, Harvard University; Professor Erik Herzog, Washington University; Professor Marla Feller, UC Berkley; as well as a panel of leaders in research funding and many alumni, alumnae of the CVR. Celebration of Life for Jorge Grimes is Nov. 6
A Celebration of Life service for Dr. Jorge Grimes will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Medical Alumni Auditorium in Weiskotten Hall. Grimes was associate professor and chair of the graduate nursing program at Upstate’s College of Nursing in the 1990s and served as interim dean in 1997-98. All are welcome to attend. Volunteers needed for preparing, serving a meal at Sarah’s Guest House Oct. 27
Upstate employees are invited to help Sarah’s Guest House, the university’s 2022 Your Cause partner, with meal preparation at the house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Volunteers interested in helping should contact Susan Bland at BLANDmeS@upstate.edu or Kelly Dolan at DolanK@upstate.edu Upstate employees should wear a Team Upstate shirt, if possible. Sarah’s Guest House is a local 501C3 charity whose mission is to provide lodging, transportation, meals and comfort to patients and families receiving medical care in Central New York. It is the only healthcare hospitality house for adults in Central New York.
