Upstate’s policy on consensual relationships (Policy: UW C-05) has been updated

Upstate’s policy on consensual relationships has been updated and prohibits faculty and anyone in a supervisory role from engaging in a consensual relationship with a subordinate employee or a student.

Miracle Treat Day is July 28

Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen in Cicero will be held July 28. Proceeds benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. For every Blizzard Treat sold on Miracle Treat Day, $1 will be donated back to the children’s hospital.

Pathway to Wellness session on living a mindful life is July 28

A session on living a mindful life will be held July 28 at noon for 15 minutes. Tips on how to reduce stress, lower risk of depression, help your children be happier will be offered by brain scientist Kristen Race. To join, visit: https://upstate.webex.com/meet/brisks. Upstate’s Emerging Leaders United seeks volunteers Aug. 4

Upstate’s Emerging Leaders United group seeks volunteers to participate in Day of Caring, an event to celebrate the United Way of CNY’s 100thanniversary. Days of Caring will be held Aug. 4. Local companies, organizations and individuals will participate in community service for local nonprofit agencies, the City of Syracuse, and Onondaga County. Upstate Emerging Leaders United has secured morning, afternoon, and evening volunteer opportunities.

Two opportunities to help Upstate’s Your Cause charity are Aug. 6 and 18

The Upstate community is invited to help Sarah’s Guest House, the university’s 2022 Your Cause partner, with two volunteer activities: 

—painting a shed and completing yard work Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

—interior painting Aug. 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Sarah’s Guest House

Mindful Meditation is Aug. 8 and 10

Mindful Meditation will be held Aug. 8 and 10 at 10 a.m. via WebEx. Annemarie Cristino, LCSW, CEAP, Upstate’s Employee Assistance Program coordinator, will offer 30 minutes of mindful meditation instruction and information. Easy for You is Aug. 9

Easy for you, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 7335B Upstate University Hospital. Those with an Upstate ID are welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. Volunteers sought for Mary Nelson’s Youth Center 21st annual Back-To-School BBQ Aug. 20

The 21st annual Backpack and School Supply giveaway and BBQ event seeks volunteers to help set up, clean up, and hand out supplies Aug. 20 at the corner of S. Salina St. and Wood Ave.

Safe Kids Sunday at Syracuse Mets game is Aug. 28

Safe Kids Sunday will be held Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. at Syracuse Mets Stadium, 1 Tex Simone Dr. Gates will open at noon. Kids eat free at Sunday games and everyone will have a chance to meet Tator Tot, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Salt Potato. The first 1,000 fans in the door will receive a Tator Tot bobble head.

Ace Hardware Bucket Days are Aug. 5 to 7: Buy a $5 bucket at a participating Ace Hardware Aug. 5 to 7. Donations collected will benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Create Change at JOANN in August: JOANN will partner with Children’s Miracle Network in August to raise money for local member hospitals, including Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, through customer donations.
