New York State Telecommuting Pilot Program has been extended

The Telecommuting Pilot Program for New York state employees has been extended through April 2, 2021. Telecommuting options are also available for Research Foundation staff and other members of Upstate’s work force. Information on telecommuting for state and Research Foundation staff is available here: https://www.upstate.edu/hr/intra/hr-covid19.php. If the program is extended beyond April 2, an update will be shared.



NYS Option Transfer Period closes Dec. 31

The New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) has announced the employee bi-weekly rates for 2021 and provides eligible employees with the option of changing between the pans offered (PPO to HMO). Except under limited circumstances, options cannot be changed outside the annual Option Transfer Period, which ends Dec. 31.

To change your health insurance option during the Option Transfer Period, visit https://www.upstate.edu/hr/intra/benefits/changing_options_state.phpor contact Kathi Exner at exnerk@upstate.edu as soon as possible. Eligible employees may also be able to opt out of coverage for the 2021 plan year in exchange for an incentive payment. The Pre-Tax Contribution Program (PTCP) Election Period Changes for 2021 now runs concurrently with the Option Transfer Period.



Geriatric Council T-shirt sale ends Dec. 31

The Shared Governance Geriatric Council is selling T-shirts now through Dec. 31 for $20 each. Proceeds benefit Geriatric Council activities. To order, visit www.upstate.edu/apparel.



Friend in Deed funding applications accepted until Jan. 15

The Upstate Foundation is accepting applications from Upstate employees for Friend in Deed funding for projects that enhance the patient experience at Upstate University Hospital’s Community and Downtown campuses through Jan. 15. Friend in Deed is the annual fund for the hospitals and is largely supported through donations from grateful patients and their families, as well as members of the Upstate family and the community. Guidelines and applications are available on the Upstate Foundation website at https://www.upstatefoundation.org/friendindeed or by calling 315-464-4416. Applications require the approval of a department head. Applications should be submitted to the Upstate Foundation office, CAB 326.



Nominations sought for Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service by Feb. 1

Nominations are sought for the 2020-2021 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service. This award recognizes State classified service employees represented by CSEA, PEF and PBA of NYS for excellence and superior service.
