Upstate’s COVID-19 testing site to offer tests for asymptomatic employees and students July 22 and 23
Upstate employees and students who are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are welcome to be tested at the 800 E. Water St. testing site July 22 and 23—drive through or walk up. Capacity will allow for 50 tests per day. Employees/students will not be charged above what insurance covers. To schedule an appointment, call 315-464-2582 and select option 0. Individuals will receive test results by phone within 48 hours. Results will also be available through MyChart. Testing is private and not connected to Employee/Student Health. Additional dates will be added as testing capacity allows.

Cafe 550 will re-open July 22
Cafe 550 will re-open July 22 with normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Menu items will be available to order for grab-and-go only; no sit-down dining is permitted at this time.

Bioethics and Humanities Virtual Journal Club is July 23
Rachel Fabi, PhD, will lead a discussion on how bioethicists can contribute to addressing racism and why they should July 23 from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. For access to the article and a Zoom link, email Andrea Musolino at musolina@upstate.edu. Conversations about race and racism will continue during the virtual journal clubs for the next six months.

Donations and volunteers sought for Mary Nelson’s backpack and school supplies drive through July 24
New school supplies and new or gently used backpacks will be accepted through July 24 at various locations throughout campus. For drop box locations, visit www.upstate.edu/backpack. Blood drives are July 27, 28 and Aug. 12
Upstate will host Red Cross blood drives July 27 from noon to 6 p.m. and July 28 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria at Upstate Community Hospital; and Aug. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. in the atrium of Setnor Academic Building. Upstate staff and students are welcome to make an appointment online at: www.upstate.edu/blood. Individuals unable to keep an appointment should email brucek@upstate.edu. Easy for You, Upstate’s tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 7335B (West Wing) at Upstate University Hospital. Proposals sought for Clark Endowment for Pediatric Research
Proposals for funding through the Clark Endowment for Pediatric Research are due Sept. 1. The Clark Endowment for Pediatric Research, an initiative established through Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Upstate Foundation, supports basic or clinical research projects and research equipment relevant to child health, up to $15,000.00 for one year. All proposals will be reviewed and ranked for scientific merit by the Pediatric Research Advisory Committee. Awards will be announced in October.
