Upstate Foundation hosts national speaker Scott Deming

Special event is Sept. 10

An earlier announcement about this event that appeared in Upstate Announcements and UpstateOnline had the wrong date. The correct information is below. 

Scott Deming—national speaker, author and trainer—will present The Magic of Process, Purpose and Leadership Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in 4414 Academic Building. Hosted by the Upstate Foundation, all Upstate healthcare staff are welcome. Nursing and social work attendees are eligible for 1.5 CEU credit hours. Deming helps teams and individuals improve communication skills, become stronger leaders, and find lasting patient loyalty. The event is part of the Grateful Patient and Family Program and is co-hosted by the Physician Philanthropic Council and Upstate Philanthropic Council. Individuals sought to represent Upstate at New York State Fair 

State Fair runs from Aug. 21 to Sept. 2

Deadline for Emerging Leaders United applications is Aug. 19 

Upstate employees are welcome to apply for Upstate’s chapter of Emerging Leaders United, an affinity group with United Way of Central New York. Participants of the Emerging Leaders program will represent Upstate Medical University and have the opportunity to attend leadership and community education programs, volunteer events, and network with leaders from Syracuse businesses. Emerging Leaders are required to fulfill 16 hours of volunteer service from September 2019 to September 2020. WW at Work begins Aug. 27

A new WW at Work begins Aug. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. in 10405A in the East Tower at Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown Campus. To enroll, participants must be present at this meeting. Registration for the 12-week program is $132.60 and payment options are available. Those who register will receive a kitchen kit. Urology Grand Rounds on physician burnout is Sept. 4

Daniel Marchalik, MD, MA, medical director for physician well being at MedStar Health and urologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, will present Medicine: Myth and Facts on Physician Burnout Sept. 4 from 7 to 8 a.m. in 4414B Academic Building. College of Nursing information session is Sept. 4

The College of Nursing will host an information session Sept. 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. in 1143 Academic Building. Admission requirements, programs of study, and financial aid opportunities will be discussed. Representatives from the college and Student Admissions will be available to answer questions. Retirement reception for Jeff Smith is Sept. 4

A retirement reception will be held for Jeff Smith Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the West Lounge of the Campus Activities Building. Smith retires after 39 years of service. For more information, call Ofelia Bell in Finance Administration at 315-464-4664.

The Al Todeschini Paddle for Pancreatic Cancer will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. at Mountainman Outdoor Supply Co. in Old Forge, N.Y. Upstate offers education during Malnutrition Awareness Week Sept. 23 to 27

Upstate Nutritional Services and Morrison Healthcare will offer educational webinars for health professionals during Malnutrition Awareness Week Sept. 23 to 27, in room 10405A in the East Tower of Upstate’s Downtown Campus. The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) is accredited to provide medical, pharmacy, nursing, and dietetic credits. Recycle printer cartridges for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital

Recycle used printer cartridges or ink jet cartridges to raise funds for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital by placing items in their original boxes, placing in interoffice mail, and addressing to ‘Recycle.’ Do not place any UPS label on the box.
