2019 health insurance rates for state employees announced

The 2019 health insurance rates for New York state employees have been announced. The deadline to make option transfer changes through Upstate’s Human Resources-Benefits Office for 2019 is Jan. 18. The Hospital Choir to sing Dec. 21 and 23

The Hospital Choir will sing carols Friday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at Community Campus and Sunday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. at Downtown Campus. To sing with the Community choir, meet in Spiritual Care Room 3101. To sing with the Downtown choir, meet in Room 1224. The choir welcomes requests and referrals from all hospital areas and units. Christmas Masses are Dec. 24 and 25

Priest Chaplain Father Innocent Onyenagubo will offer Christmas Eve Mass Monday, Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. and Christmas Day Mass Tuesday, Dec. 25 at noon in the Interfaith Chapel at Downtown Campus. All are welcome. 



Spiritual Care Journal Club is Jan. 2

The Spiritual Care Journal Club will be held Jan. 2 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. in room 1317 at Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown Campus. “The Spiritual Event of Serious Illness,” from the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, will be discussed. Katherine J. Swoboda, MD, to speak at Neuroscience Grand Rounds Jan. 9

Katherine J. Swoboda, MD, the Katherine B. Sims M.D. Endowed Chair in Neurogenetics and director of the Neurogenetics Program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children, will speak at Neuroscience Grand Rounds Jan. 9 at 8 a.m. in 103 Weiskotten Hall. Swoboda is a neurologist and geneticist, and an expert in motor disorders with childhood onset. Swoboda’s primary research efforts include genotype/phenotype studies targeting the underlying molecular disease pathogenesis, biomarker development and treatment of inherited motor disorders.



Friend in Deed funding applications due Jan. 11

The Upstate Foundation is accepting applications from Upstate employees for Friend in Deed funding for projects that enhance the patient experience at Upstate University Hospital’s Community and Downtown campuses. Friend in Deed is the annual fund for the hospitals and is largely supported through donations from grateful patients and their families, as well as members of the Upstate family and the community. Guidelines and applications are available at www.upstatefoundation.org/friendindeedor 315-464-4416. Applications require the approval of a department head. The deadline to submit applications to the Upstate Foundation, 326 Campus Activities Building, is Friday, Jan. 11.



Child Abuse Medical Provider Program (CHAMP) is Jan. 16
