SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: President Dewan to deliver State of the University Address April 13 at 4 p.m.

Upstate President Mantosh Dewan, MD, will deliver his State of the University Address Wednesday, April 13 at 4 p.m. in room 4414 of the Academic Building. The event also will be streamed live; link to be sent prior to the address. In addition to the address, the event will feature the presentation of the inaugural Upstate Council Awards for Exemplary Service. The Upstate Community is invited to attend.

Fundraising campaigns for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital

Two local opportunities to support Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital are currently underway. Now through April 30, shop at a local Ace Hardware store and round up purchases to the nearest dollar. Now through May 14, donate $1, $3, or $5 at the checkout at Kinney Drugs during their Children’s Miracle Network balloon campaign. Donations sought for silent auction 

Upstate’s Organ Donor Council seeks donations for its annual silent auction, to be held virtually April 18 to 22. All proceeds benefit the Donor Fund and are used to promote organ donation and new donor registration. Prizes will be awarded to the most creative, most lucrative and best theme auction item. To arrange for donations to be picked up, call 315-464-9227 or email Dahline@upstsate.edu. Donations are required by April 13.

Sarah’s Guest House is a local 501C3 charity whose mission is to provide lodging, transportation, meals and comfort to patients and families receiving medical care in Central New York. They are the only healthcare hospitality house for adults in Central New York.

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Upstate will offer two workshops on bystander training, in partnership with Vera House.

Primary Care Task Force education session is April 14

Anuradha Duleep, MD, and Carlos Muniz, MD, MSc, will present Managing Seizures in the Primary Care Setting April 14 at 8 a.m. via Zoom. Primary care providers will learn more about the approach to seizures in adult patients, and when a referral is your best course of action. Content will include diagnosis and practical management, referring to Upstate Neurology, and a Q and A. The presentation will be recorded and posted for Upstate clinicians once complete. Donate Life Month T-shirt sales are April 14

Donate Life T-shirts will be available for purchase April 14 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the second-floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital. Upstate Community Hospital will hold a sale April 14 in the cafeteria and April 22 in the community room, both from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Kick Butts Earth Day event is April 22

The Tobacco-Free Task Force will host Kick Butts Earth Day Friday, April 22 at 10 a.m. beginning in the atrium of Upstate Cancer Center. Join the team to clean up cigarette butts on the Upstate campus and clear the air at Upstate, as tobacco use is not permitted anywhere on campus. Spring into Wellness is April 25

A mini-health fair will be held April 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the atrium of Upstate Cancer Center. Information will be available on a variety of programs, including: financial counseling, nutrition counseling, spiritual care, survivorship, smoking cessation, We Matter, She Matters, and more. The Upstate community is welcome. Masks are required.

IMT Training offers one-hour virtual demos to introduce Microsoft OneDrive, the secure file storing and sharing platform, to staff, faculty and departments who may benefit from its features. The demo includes accessing OneDrive for the first time, editing files on all devices and sharing documents or photos in Office.

Upstate’s Inclusive Health Services offers free yoga classes in April

Upstate’s Inclusive Health Services will host free virtual queer yoga with HK Goldstein every Tuesday during April at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome. To register online, visit: https://bit.ly/3s8lO0E. Records and Information Management Month (RIMM) is celebrated internationally during the month of April to highlight the significant impact records management has on organizations. The purpose is to emphasize the value and importance of organizing and maintaining records and data for the efficient and effective management of information.

April is Occupational Therapy Month

Occupational therapy is an essential piece of the Upstate community at several locations. Upstate employs 54 occupational therapists at Upstate University Hospital, Community, IHP and Manlius. Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help individuals participate in activities they want or need to do through therapeutic use of everyday activities, also known as occupations. Help celebrate the profession by thanking an Upstate occupational therapist in April.

Advocates annual luncheon is May 3

The Upstate community is invited to attend the annual meeting and luncheon of the Advocates for Upstate May 3 at noon at the Collegian Hotel, 1060 E. Genesee St. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and a business meeting for members will be held at 11:45 a.m. Upstate University Hospital CEO Robert Corona, DO, MBA, is the guest speaker. Easy for You, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, May 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 7335B Upstate University Hospital. Everyone with an Upstate ID is welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available.
