Dr. Jessica Summers Memorial Scholarship Fund launched

The Dr. Jessica Summers Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created to sponsor an annual mission trip to Honduras for a young medical professional. Dr. Summers was passionate about her missionary work in this area. To make a donation to the fund, visit The Upstate Foundation.

Dates set for Nappi Wellness Building beam signing for Upstate staff

A beam that will become part of the Nappi Wellness Building, which is currently under construction across the street from Upstate Cancer Center, will be set up at various locations around campus for Upstate employees to sign. The beam will be in the lobby of the Upstate Cancer Center from July 12 to 23 and be available for signing starting at 10 a.m. The beam will travel to UHCC July 26 and be set up outside the staff area near the loading dock for signatures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Joslin Diabetes Center will host the beam for signatures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trivia quiz on Upstate Community Hospital is available to Upstate community

On July 7, Upstate University Hospital celebrated the 10th anniversary of Upstate Community Hospital becoming part of Upstate’s clinical system. Retirement reception for Rabbi Irvin Beigel is July 12

A retirement reception will be held for Rabbi Irvin Beigel July 12 at 12:30 p.m. in 1224 Spiritual Care, Upstate University Hospital. Rabbi Irvin Beigel has given 17 years of devoted care visiting our Jewish patients and families as our voluntary Jewish Chaplain. He was in the first class of Clinical Pastoral Education Chaplain Interns at Upstate, Summer 2004, along with Fr. Innocent, our current Priest Chaplain.

The reception will be followed by a one-hour seminar at 1:15 p.m. on Judaism that he will lead in the Interfaith Chapel. The entire Upstate Community is welcome to attend and wish Rabbi well.

Campus Blood Drive is July 15 and 16

A campus blood drive will be held Thursday, July 15 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, July 16 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the atrium of Setnor Academic Building, next to Weiskotten Hall, 766 Irving Ave. To schedule an appointment, visit www.upstate.edu/blood. 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease program is July 21

A one-hour program on the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease will be held July 21 from 4 to 5 p.m. via Zoom. To receive meeting information, please register in advance. The free one-hour program explores typical age-related changes, describes common signs of Alzheimer's and dementia, and explains the importance of early detection and benefits of a diagnosis. Attendees will learn tips for how to approach someone about memory concerns and we'll review helpful Alzheimer's Association resources.

Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s a Cure Virtual 5k Walk/Run is July 1 to 31 

The virtual Maureen T. O’Hara Teal There’s a Cure 5k Walk/Run takes place from July 1 to 31. Proceeds benefit ovarian cancer research at Upstate Medical University. The $20 registration includes one raffle entry for local business gift cards and a Teal There’s a Cure-branded mask. Easy for You is Aug. 10

Easy for You, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 7335B of the west wing at Upstate University Hospital's Downtown Campus. Those with an Upstate ID are welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. Pars for Stroke Golf Tournament is Aug. 29

The Pars for Stroke Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 29 at The Links at Erie Village. Get a foursome together and register at https://www.upstatefoundation.org/Pars-for-Stroke. Those interested in playing, sponsoring or donating products for prizes can do so at the same link.

All proceeds go to the Upstate Stroke Foundation to help raise awareness and educate the community about the signs/symptoms and treatments for stroke to facilitate better health outcomes. Departments of Physical Therapy Education and Pediatrics seeks study participants 

The EASE oF ID (Pilot) Project: Establishing Autism spectrum disorder Signs Earlier by Following high-risk Infant Development seeks to recruit infants between the ages of 4 and 8 weeks of age that have one older sibling diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to compare to infants with no family history of ASD to gain a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of ASD within the first year of life and the differences in levels of stress experienced in parents/caregivers for a 12 month long study. One hour home visits will be completed monthly to measure your infant’s overall development, as well as your levels of parenting stress over the first year of life. A team of infection prevention and public health experts at Upstate developed a brief, five-minute survey to help us understand hand hygiene practices at Upstate. We aim to understand thoughts and behaviors about the new SwipeSense monitoring system.
