Thanksgiving snacks are available today and tomorrow
Upstate’s traditional Thanksgiving holiday snack offerings will be available Nov. 19 and 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Café 750 at Upstate University Hospital and the Community Cafeteria by printing a voucher at: https://www.upstate.edu/hr/intra/staff_resources/upstate_stars/index.php. An assortment may be also be delivered to your department. Please keep physical distancing and mandatory mask safety measures in mind at all times and do not congregate.
Bioethics and Humanities Journal Club is Nov. 19
The Center for Bioethics and Humanities Journal Club will be held Nov. 19 from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Community Campus Primary Care Grand Rounds is Nov. 20
Community Campus Primary Care Grand Rounds will be held Nov. 20 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in Classroom A/B at Community and via WebEx. Robert Sherman, MD, will present The Role of Unconventional Nonoperative Regenerative Interventions in the Management of Degenerative Disease of the Knee. 2021 Productivity Enhancement Program for New York state employees ends Nov. 30
The Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP) has been announced by the NYS Department of Civil Service for NYS eligible CSEA, UUP represented and MC Affiliated employees. Please note that at this time, PEF represented employees are not eligible to participate in PEP. PEP allows eligible employees to exchange previously accrued annual leave (vacation and/or personal leave) in return for a credit to be applied toward their employee share NYSHIP premiums on a biweekly basis for 2021. The 2021 Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Program open enrollment period for NY State employees ends Nov. 30. Requirements: To be eligible to enroll in the Flexible Spending Account Program, State employees must be annual salaried, work at least half time, meet the eligibility criteria for enrollment in the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP), and be expected to be employed for the entire 2021 calendar year. NYS University Police No Shave November Fundraiser runs throughout November
The New York State University Police at Upstate Medical University third annual No Shave November fundraiser honors former Public Safety Officer Daryl Lohm who fought courageously against cancer, but passed away in July of 2018. No Shave November proceeds will support the Daryl M. Lohm Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, established at the Upstate Foundation, to assist Upstate Cancer Center patients and families during their time of need. Easy for You is Dec. 8
Easy for You, Upstate’s tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in 7335B of the west wing at Upstate University Hospital. Those with an Upstate ID are welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. 2021 President’s and SUNY Chancellor’s Awards accepted now through Dec. 21
Nominations for the 2021 President’s and SUNY Chancellor’s Awards will be accepted now through Dec. 21, 2020. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit nominations. These are prestigious awards for outstanding contributions in the categories outlined below. The nomination period for both levels of awards will be the same during the 2020/21 cycle, and nominations for either or both level are encouraged.

Child Life seeks volunteers in December
Child Life seeks volunteers to prepare and organize donations for the holiday season. Volunteer are sought for two-hour shifts throughout December and must be currently employed at an Upstate campus. For more information, email Rachel Hannon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers sought to help with composting
Volunteers are being sought expand composting efforts at Upstate. Composting reduces landfill emissions and supplies compost to build healthy soil for farms and gardens in Onondaga county. Baldwin Fund Lemon-Aid Stand fundraiser
For over a decade, The Baldwin Fund has supported the Upstate Medical University through breast cancer research grants totaling over $3 million and 100 percent of the CNY fundraising is donated back to Upstate. Friend in Deed funding applications accepted until Jan. 15
The Upstate Foundation is accepting applications from Upstate employees for Friend in Deed funding for projects that enhance the patient experience at Upstate University Hospital’s Community and Downtown campuses. Friend in Deed is the annual fund for the hospitals and is largely supported through donations from grateful patients and their families, as well as members of the Upstate family and the community. Guidelines and applications are available on the Upstate Foundation website at https://www.upstatefoundation.org/friendindeed or by calling 315-464-4416. Applications require the approval of a department head. The deadline to submit applications to the Upstate Foundation office (CAB 326) is Friday, January 15, 2021.
