Upstate’s covid testing site to relocate for winter months 

Upstate’s covid testing site will move from 800 Water Street to the New York State Fairgrounds (581 State Fair Blvd.) beginning Oct. 20. Individuals will enter Gate 2 and follow the signs for the Horticulture Building. Registration is required. 

There are several ways for staff/students to schedule a covid test: 

—To schedule via Upstate My Chart, visit www.upstate.edu/mychart

—Once logged into Self-Serve, staff and students may access the Employee Pre-Registration template under the My Information tab to schedule an appointment. 

—To schedule an appointment via email, send a message to centschd@upstate.edu and include: name, date of birth, and phone number. 

—Call 315-464-2778, and select 0. 

Once results are provided and staff/students need clearance to return to work/school, call the Employee Resource Line at 315-464-8436.

Upstate’s Virtual ER is open seven days a week from 1 to 9 p.m. Board-certified emergency medicine physicians will see patients of all ages from the privacy of their home vis smartphone or computer. All insurance carriers are accepted, as well as self-pay if the patient prefers. Community Giving Campaign in homestretch

Upstate would like to thank the more than 1,000 employees who have participated in the Upstate Community Giving Campaign to help hundreds of agencies this year. Upstate’s Mid-Campaign Report includes the names of Upstate Community members who have contributed to the campaign as of Sept. 30 and is available here: https://www.upstate.edu/communitygiving/pdf/cgc-midcampaign-report.pdf. Individuals can still participate in the campaign and have their names included in the Final Campaign Report. Giving can be done online or using a paper form. Breast Cancer Program hosts Project Pink

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Upstate’s Breast Cancer Program is hosting Project Pink activities to raise awareness of a disease that impacts one in eight women. To start, each Friday in October, all Upstate employees are encouraged to wear a touch of pink to raise awareness.

Community Campus Primary Care Grand Rounds are Oct. 16, 23 and 30

Community Campus Primary Care Grand Rounds will be held Fridays, Oct. 16, 23 and 30 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Up to 20 individuals will be permitted in Classroom A/B. Rounds will be available via WebEx. Patient Experience will hold a T-shirt sale Oct. 21 from noon to 4 p.m. on the first floor of Upstate University Hospital near the green elevator lobby, and Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon in 0124 at Community Campus. VIPink virtual event is Oct. 22 

Ranjna Sharma, MD, FACS, medical director of Upstate Breast Cancer Program, and Jayne Charlamb, MD, FACP, director of Breast Health and Breastfeeding Medicine, will host a conversation in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. on HealthLink’s Facebook page. The discussion will include information on screening, prevention and survivorship, as well as surgical and medical treatment options. Learn about some of the newest technologies available for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer as well as the latest screening guidelines for unique situations. Information about high-risk individuals will also be discussed.

Upstate Foundation’s Call-In for Cancer seeks volunteers Oct. 22 

The Upstate Foundation’s second annual Call-In for Cancer will broadcast live from IHEARTMEDIA stations News Radio 570 WSYR and on Y94 Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers are sought to answer phones, take pledges and make calls to thank past donors. One-, two- and three-hour shifts are available. The phone bank will be located in the Upstate Cancer Center conference room 1076 A/B/C. All COVID-19 protocols for social distancing, mask wearing and phone cleaning will be adhered to. Individuals who are unable to volunteer for a shift may be considered for a social media ambassador post. Child Life Program seeks donations for Halloween by Oct. 26

Due to Covid-19, the annual Halloween parade at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital will not take place. In lieu of the parade, Child Life Program will provide each patient a Halloween bag of goodies. To donate candy or other items, email Beth Kinsley at kinsleye@upstate.edu by Oct. 26.

Clinician Peer Support Program of CNY to host training Oct. 29

The Clinician Peer Support Program of Central New York (formerly MIPS-CNY) and the P2P Peer Support Program, offered through the Medical Society of the State of New York, will host a training session Oct. 29 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. Jo Shapiro, MD, FACS, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, developed and will facilitate the training geared toward physicians, nurses, physician assistants, residents and fellows who are good, kind and empathetic listeners and interested in helping their colleagues.
