Because the pituitary gland regulates hormone secretion and affects multiple body processes, patients with pituitary tumors are treated by multiple specialists—teams that combine neurosurgeons, endocrinologists, neuroophthalmologists, neuroradiologists, radiation therapists, clinical pathologists and others.

Pituitary Tumors

Since the mid-1990's, Upstate neurosurgeons—working side by side with ear, nose and throat surgeons—have approached smaller pituitary tumors through the nose and sinuses, using endoscopes and specially designed instruments that are much less invasive. This less traumatic approach provides excellent visualization of the pituitary gland and surrounding structures, involves less perioperative discomfort and shortens hospital stays.
