Electrophysiology equipment Instrumentation for performing electrophysiology experiments in either dissociated cells or slices.  Also included is the ability for calcium imaging in either dissociated cells or slices. Dissociated cell system includes: Nikon Eclipse Ti inverted microscope with brightfield, DIC, epifluorescence, motorized stage; Sutter Lambda DG-4 Illumination System; sCMOS camera Andor Zyla 4.0; Sutter MPC 325-2 manipulator system; Axon Multiclamp 700B Microelectrode amplifier; Axon Digidata 1440A digitizer; Warner temperature controlled multi-solution perfusion system. Slice system includes:  Nikon Eclipse FN1 upright microscope with brightfield, IR-DIC, epifluorescence; Sutter Lambda LS Illumination System; sCMOS camera Andor Zyla 4.0; Sutter MT-1078 Alcatraz manipulator system; Axon Multiclamp 700B Microelectrode amplifier; Axon Digidata 1440A digitizer; Warner temperature controlled multi-solution perfusion system. Additional equipment includes: Leica VT1000S Vibrating blade microtome, Narishige MF-900 Microforge; Micro OsmetteTM Osmometer.


 USAGE RULES of SHARED EQUIPMENT

By using this piece of equipment all users are attesting that they agree:
1) To follow the rules of use
2) Be respectful that the equipment contributes to the work of all researchers on campus
3) To report all malfunctions or problems with the equipment to NRBequip@upstate.edu as soon as they occur
4) Failure to follow the rules may led to the suspension of privileges for the user or their laboratory

All New users, before using any shared equipment must request access by email

The equipment manager will supply any necessary instructions for the equipment (manual, SOP, or training), and when necessary an account for the online calendar.

Experienced or Trained users are allowed unsupervised usage with these rules:
 
  • Check paper/online postings for downtime or SOP changes
  • Strictly follow SOP/manual of the equipment
  • For equipment with an online calendar sign up to use the equipment
  • Record each usage on local paper sheet
  • Leave the equipment in the state that you'd expect to find it, clean and ready for use (Consult the SOP/manual regarding shutting down or standby mode)
  • Report problems and emergencies as advised on the equipment label including the specific number for that piece of equipment

If by neglect or misuse you break the equipment, your laboratory may well be fined for the repairs, this can be costly if the instrument is not maintained under a service contract.  Make sure you know what you are doing before using the equipment.

 
Currently this equipment is NOT CERTIFIED for the usage with biohazardous BSL-2 samples, including human, non-human primate or any agent classified as BSL-2. Consult with the equipment manager how/if the certification can be obtained.
