University Hospital is a Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, as well as a Gold Plus rated Comprehensive Stroke Center.
The Neuroscience floor in the 9th floor of the East tower and includes a 19 bed for both stroke and general neurology cases with telemetry monitoring capability. The nursing staff and stroke Advanced Practice Providers partner with our resident teams to provide excellent bedside monitoring and care. There is a call room for neurology residents located on this floor, as well as our main lecture hall, making workflow convenient for the inpatient teams.
The Neuro-ICU is a 27 bed unit for acute neurology and neurosurgical patients to receive intensive care and stabilization before transitioning to neuroscience floors. All beds are wired for state-of-the-art EEG monitoring capability. Residents have the ability to learn ICU level procedures and practices such as insertion of central lines, arterial lines, monitoring of intracranial pressure, ventilator setting management and much more. Our Advanced Practice Providers in the ICU help maintain the safety and quality of intensive care, allowing residents to focus on learning from these critically ill patients.
The neurology residents have a private lounge on the 7th floor of the main hospital equipped with 9 computer workspaces, 2 couches, a refrigerator, a microwave, a printer/scanner, a television and lockers to store their belongings.
The VA has a dedicated cubicle for residents to complete their consult notes and keep their belongings.
The University Health Care Center 2nd floor is the main site for neurology continuity clinics. It is a 10 minute walk from the main hospital. At the clinic, there are 24 examination rooms, nursing station, a communal kitchenette for neurology faculty, residents and staff. There is a common work room full of computer stations to allow residents, students and faculty to collaborate in the care of outpatients outside of the examination rooms. Our residency clinic has its own dedicated nurse and clinical assistant to address their patient needs.
