Student Profile:

During my undergraduate career at Binghamton University, I had conducted research on determining the effects of post-translational modifications on the aggregation rate of beta-amyloid peptides, a leading cause of Alzheimer’s disease. I had also explored various techniques on monitoring the uptake and efflux of glutamate across excitatory amino acid carrier transporters.

I joined the MD/PhD program in June 2022. In the Chen lab, under the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at SUNY Upstate, I had explored the role of insulin-like growth factor 2 in handling mitochondria-induced proteostatic stress in the cell cytosol. My current research projects involve using mouse and cell culture models to determine how mitochondrial stress signaling affects cardiac and metabolic health. I hope to uncover molecular mechanisms by which secreted proteins improve heart function and reduce skeletal muscle atrophy.
