Surgeon explains advantages of different treatments for common heart problems
Upstate cardiac surgeon Stephen Waterford, MD, explains atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that affects millions of Americans and can lead to a stroke, and how it can be treated with medicines or various procedures, including minimally invasive surgery. Waterford also describes common problems that can develop in heart valves and how the valves can replaced, or, if possible, repaired surgically. Both atrial fibrillation and valve problems are more common in older adults, he notes.
