An unusual case of pneumonia may be a new vaping hazard

A research team from Upstate Medical University published a paper in the medical journal Pediatrics about a potential life-threatening complication from vaping. Fourth-year medical students Michelle Gorbonosov and Kiah McArthur, who were part of the team, discuss an unusual case of pneumonia in a young woman who had to be hospitalized for 10 days. A month after she went home, she still struggled with shortness of breath. Gorbonosov and McArthur also address the more common health risks of inhaling nicotine-laced vapor. The case was overseen by  Joseph Domachowske, MD, a professor of pediatrics and microbiology and immunology at Upstate.
