This type of high blood pressure affects vessels in the lungs
Upstate pulmonologist Birendra Sah, MD, explains pulmonary hypertension, or high blood pressure in the lungs, and the various forms it takes, based on its causes. This condition is not to be confused with regular hypertension, which affects the whole body. Symptoms of pulmonary hypertension may include fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations and leg swelling, all of which could indicate other disorders. Sah says many patients who are eventually found to have pulmonary hypertension often make multiple medical visits for heart problems or breathing problems before they are diagnosed. He addresses treatment options and suggested lifestyle changes.
