Study shows some, not all, women with breast cancer can skip chemotherapy
Recent results of an international study show that some women with breast cancer can safely skip chemotherapy. Medical oncologist Abirami Sivaparagasam, MD, who goes by Abi Siva, explains which women will benefit from endocrine therapy and which will also need chemotherapy. A genetic test of tissue from the breast tumor helps doctors provide individual treatment recommendations. Sivaparagasam says some patients from the Upstate Cancer Center participated in the study that recently made headlines.
