Wrist injuries commonly occur from falls
Children, adults and senior citizens are all at risk for wrist injury when they fall. Upstate orthopedic surgeon Brian Harley, MD, who specializes in care of the hands and upper extremities, compares the diagnoses and treatment options for sprains, fractures and dislocations. He says up to 15 percent of people will suffer a wrist fracture in their lifetime. Some injuries are severe enough to be treated in a hospital emergency department, while others can be seen in a walk-in hand and upper extremity clinic, held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at Upstate Orthopedics, 6620 Fly Road, East Syracuse.
