"Mercy Killers" the play that illustrates what's wrong with the American health care system
Actor and playwright Michael Milligan performed his play, "Mercy Killers" at Upstate, as a guest of the Center for Bioethics and Humanities. The one-character play follows the structure of a Greek tragedy, describing a man's struggle to pay for the medical care needed by his wife when she is diagnosed with breast cancer. Ethicist Kathy Faber-Langendoen, MD, says the play raises a key question of whether health care is like primary education, where all of society has access, or like college education, where access is more privileged.
