Thomas Welch, MD, chair of Upstate‘s Department of Pediatrics, and medical director, Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, shares a recent journey with his daughter to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, and offers advice on preparing for a safe and enjoyable hiking experience. Welch is a licensed New York State guide and a certifying instructor for the Wilderness Education Association who regularly teaches field courses and guide groups in Alaska, Montana and New York.
