Pancreatic cancer accounts for about 3 percent of all cancers in the United States, but 7 percent of all cancer deaths. It's the fourth leading cause of death from cancer. Advances in the treatment of this cancer are offering hope. Pancreatic surgeon Thomas Vandermeer, MD, discusses how pancreatic cancer is often discovered, diagnosed and treated. He is chief of surgical oncology at Upstate and has extensive experience in the care of patients with pancreatic cancer.
