Drug overdose deaths rise during the pandemic

The number of deaths from opioid overdoses doubled in Onondaga County the first six months of 2020, compared with the first half of 2019. Ross Sullivan, MD, discusses some of the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, their impact on people with substance use disorder and how care is still available. Sullivan is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Upstate and the director of medical toxicology.
