Mysterious, deadly lung disease tied to vaping
The cause of a multi-state outbreak of vaping-related pulmonary injuries is unknown, with more than 800 cases reported and several deaths. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there is no evidence that the occurrence of vaping-related lung disease is declining. Upstate thoracic surgeon Leslie Kohman, MD, describes the symptoms of this mysterious disease and explains some of the theories about its cause. She also reviews other health risks associated with vaping, or inhaling a vapor that is usually high in nicotine, often flavored and contains unknown, potentially harmful ingredients.
