Surgeon, radiation oncologist team up in procedure to treat early breast cancer

A new option for women with early-stage breast cancer allows for a concentrated dose of radiation therapy to be given during surgery to remove a breast tumor. Surgeon Lisa Lai, MD, and radiation oncologist Anna Shapiro, MD, explain the benefits of intraoperative radiation therapy, or IORT. It's one of the newer treatment options available at Upstate.
