Group sessions focus on body-mind wellness for people with cancer
A new Body Mind Wellness Group will cover nutrition, sleep, stress physiology and other issues of importance to people facing cancer. Led by rehabilitation psychologists on staff at the Upstate Cancer Center, the group is open to people from the Central New York community. Learn more by calling 315-464-2378. Jeffrey Schweitzer, PhD (at right in photo), explains that psychologists are part of the comprehensive care teams at the Upstate Cancer Center because of a philosophy of caring for the whole patient. Psychological intervention may occur at diagnosis, during treatment or into survivorship. He and PhD candidate Brian Arizmendi (at left) speak in this interview about the importance of assessing a patient's level of distress, not just for cancer, but for any diagnosis.
